Located in the center of corporate Midtown East, mad46 caters predominantly to the after work crowd. This is reflected in its opening hours; although in summer it opens on weekends, in spring and fall it is mostly open only on weekday evenings and only until 10 pm. The entrance, on 47th Street near the corner with Madison Avenue, is one block up from that of the main hotel. There's a single elevator to the 19th floor, which we're told can become a bottleneck at busy times. We've found that mad46 is rarely very busy, however. This is not the place to come if you're looking for a wild night, but it is a good option for a quiet evening drink (especially if you like pop music -- we've heard Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" every time we've been here). There is a pleasant view that takes in the MetLife building, the Bank of America Tower, and other nearby high-rises.
