Gansevoort Park Rooftop

New Yorkers familiar with Plunge, the original Gansevoort rooftop lounge in the meatpacking district, will recognize the bar at their new Park Avenue hotel.  This is a hot spot, with all of the good and bad that comes with that designation.  The crowd, which is big on visible displays of wealth, is very mixed, probably as a result of some having obtained admittance by paying for bottle service and others based on "merit".  The multi-level space itself is well designed and manages to feel impressive but at the same time intimate despite its size.  It's the sort of place where there's an attendant in the restrooms, where you need to start a tab and forget about how much damage you're doing to your credit card balance, and where that Eastern European always looks much better in the purple mood lighting at the bar than he or she does the next day.  The rooftop itself, which is only open in clement weather, was closed at the time of this review.
